Courtesy Pay is a new service
provided by Washington Postal Employees Federal Credit Union for those unexpected situations that arise in life.
Whether you’ve made a subtraction error or just run a little short of cash before payday, the credit union
may pay your overdraft checks up to a predetermined amount. With this service, you may never have to worry about
the embarrassment of returned checks again.
Courtesy Pay is not a loan. It is a fee-based service that allows us, at our discretion, to cover your checks,
up to a predetermined limit, so that your checks will not bounce. The fee is roughly the same as our insufficient
funds fee, but with Courtesy Pay you will avoid charges from the merchant’s check return. Courtesy Pay
will be provided to qualifying members automatically after their checking accounts have been open for 90 days.
Courtesy Pay Qualifications:
- Limit $500 (including fees)
- Account must be in good standing
- Primary member must be 18 years of age or older
- Account must not be dormant
- Account must not have negative balance or delinquent loan conditions for longer than 30 days or otherwise
have caused the credit union a financial loss
How much does courtesy pay cost? Nothing—if you never have to use it. If an overdraft does occur, and
we choose to cover it, your account will be assessed our standard nonsufficient funds/overdraft fee of $30 for
each item we pay against an overdrawn account. However, your checks will not be returned and you shouldn’t
incur additional fees that merchants charge for returned checks.

Visa Check Cards to Be Issued
At the end of March, you may receive a Visa check card for use with your accounts at Washington Postal FCU.
A Visa check card looks like a credit card but works like a check.
Using your Visa check card is just like writing a check, only easier! The cards are accepted anywhere the Visa
logo is displayed. When you use your Visa check card, the funds are taken directly from your checking account.
You can also use your Visa check card just like an ATM card, to obtain balances, transfer funds between accounts,
get an advance from your line of credit, and withdraw cash.
Because the Visa check card is really an electronic check, it reduces the need to write checks. It’s
also faster than writing a check since there is no need to have your check approved. Just present the card for
payment wherever Visa is accepted, and your payment will be processed quickly.
With a WPEFCU Visa check card, you’ll have access to thousands of ATMs nationwide. You may use any ATM
displaying the Cirrus and Star network logos. Your ATM card can also be used at any network point of sale. Use
it to buy gas, groceries or just about anything else!
When your card is issued, you will receive a personal identification number (PIN). This PIN is your electronic
signature and must be entered to begin a transaction. For your protection, do not allow others to see your PIN,
and keep the card and PIN in separate places
Reorder Your Checks Online!
